The Convicts Upskilling Pathways is a 36-month project funded by the EU’s Erasmus + programme that aims to design and pilot training modules for the upskilling of women and men prisoners in 6 European prisons while also providing the necessary tools to evaluate the impact of these upskilling paths and promoting the social reintegration of prisoners.
CUP is an international partnership spanning 4 EU countries including Italy, Greece, Cyprus and The Netherlands. Partners comprise a variety of organisations and prison administrations including: Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, Casa di Carità Arti e Mestieri, Fondazione Zancan and Turin’s prison in Italy; Human Rights 360, EPANODOS and 3 prison administrations in Greece; TIRANTES and 1 prison in The Netherlands; and the European University of Cyprus, school of Humanities Social and Education Sciences and Cyprus Central Prison. Associated partners include the Bureau Nazorg (the Dutch local authority for the reintegration of ex-convicts) and Estabelecimento Prisional de Leiria Prison in Portugal.
Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo
Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo (FCSP) was established in 1563 for philanthropic purposes, to promote cultural, civil and economic development, on the strength of its solid assets and stable grant-making capacity. Since 2020, FCSP applies the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to its work, as a rigorous, internationally shared methodological framework. They have reorganised their structure around 3 Goals including culture, people and the planet, divided into 14 interconnected, cross-cutting missions.

Fondazione Casa di Carità Arti e Mestieri onlus
Casa di Carità Arti e Mestieri (CCAM) is a non-profit vocational training centre. It plans, coordinates and conducts research, guidance, education and training, updating and support to work. CCAM provides guidance and training to over 6000 students (adults and minors) each year: teenagers, apprentices, graduates, workers, migrants, young people at risk, men and women in situations of social disadvantage, people with justice problems. CCAM works in 15 prisons in Piedmont, 2 prisons in Sardinia and in the juvenile prison of Turin providing services for inmates and ex-convicts in order to reintegrate them into both social and labour market.

Casa Circondariale Lorusso e Cutugno Torino
The Prison institution ‘Lorusso e Cutugno’ (Turin Prison), operative since the late eighties, hosts 1,443 prisoners, of which almost 10% are women. Despite being significantly overcrowded and with a high turn-over of detainees, the prison has always promoted education and work. Besides educational activities, the prison promotes activities such as: a blog; sports including football, rugby, light boxing; and regular cultural activities (e.g. theatre, musical concerts, etc.).

EPANODOS – The Greek Centre for the Social Reintegration of Ex-offenders, Greece
EPANODOS is a Greek national public body providing vocational training to prisoners both within prison institutions and outside. They support the social reintegration and employment of individuals who have been released from prison. To this end, they provide rehabilitation services, including psychological support, financial assistance, and legal and employment counselling. EPANODOS also supports prisoners to access initiatives and schemes offered by non-profit bodies or voluntary organisations with the aim of preventing social exclusion.

Cyprus Ministry of Justice and Public Order
Nicosia Prison is the only prison in Cyprus. It currently hosts just under 700 inmates of which almost 40% are foreign. All the inmates have equal rights to participate in the various programmes of work, physical exercise, education, creative recreation etc. The main aim of the administration is the reformation and rehabilitation of the inmates and so special emphasis is given on the educational, vocational and rehabilitation programmes for the detainees and their linear reintegration to the society.

PI Vught
PI Vught is a prison in the south of The Netherlands and a part of Custodial Institutions Agency (Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen – DJI). DJI is responsible for the day-to-day care of the detainees and their rehabilitation. DJI contributes to a safer society by implementing custodial measures and prison sentences and by giving the people in its care the opportunity to build up a socially acceptable life.
